With reference to your letter of the 10th

instant respecting your shipments of canned salmon

from Vancouver to Havre, I am directed by Secretary

Sir E. Grey to inform you that he hesitates to make

representations to the French Government as suggested

in your letter as it does not appear, from the corres-

pondence enclosed by you, that any useful result would

be obtained by so doing.
